The most popular activities at Scarista are eating, drinking, lounging around and walking, all of which we cater for adequately, but there are lots of other things to do as well: visiting weavers, fishing, golf, painting, cycling, climbing, archaeology, surfing, diving …
No visit to Harris would be complete without a visit to one of the many weavers on the Island. To be classed as Harris Tweed, the cloth must be:
“Handwoven by the islanders at their homes in the Outer Hebrides, finished in the Outer Hebrides, and made from pure virgin wool dyed and spun in the Outer Hebrides.”
Probably one of the best known weavers is Donald John MacKay MBE of the Luskentyre Harris Tweed Company. He is happy to give demonstrations of weaving and sells cloth in his own designs from his weaving shed which overlooks the beautiful Luskentyre beach.
